Photoshop Stuck on Hand Tool Icon
One of the most common problems when using Photoshop is the unexpected arrival of the Photoshop hand tool. I’m not the only one receiving this issue, tons upon tons of people are
all having the same issue and are seeking for help via various blogs / forums / other communicative mediums. Today I’m here to set the score straight and to allow you to start growing back all that hair you’ve been pulling out in regards to this whole complicated issue.
Here is one of the first results found when searching the keywords “Photoshop Hand Tool”.
Recently I was working in Adobe Photoshop CS3 for a client’s website project, all of a sudden my Photoshop wouldn’t display anything but the “hand” icon. No matter what tool I selected, I would always have the hand icon and not getting the tool I wanted. No move tool, no type tool, nothing. I did a quick search on the internet and couldn’t find much so i’m bookmarking my solution here.
Well, the fix is annoyingly simple as it only requires you to hit your Space Bar… Instead of hitting it at this point i wouldn’t be half surprised if you slammed it.Please do keep in mind if this does not work you can reset your preferences under the Edit > Preferences . Reset all warning dialogs.
Other than what I’ve explained above there’s nothing really else which will resolve the issue, and if after troubleshooting all of the above and you are still receiving this hand of death. Well.. You’ve got me there.
Best of luck guys!
Yeah i hate when that happens. Never thought to hit the space bar, but I have done the “Reset All Warning Dialogs”. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve also purged histories which sometimes works. I’ve found that its got somethign to do with the clipboard. It usually gets stuck on the hand tool whenever I copy an image from Firefox and try to paste it into Ps.
Yup, but yes Space Bar gives rectification to the issue. Isn’t that so freaking annoying lol.
cool tip. I’ve never had that issue, but I’ve noticed that hitting the space bar will reset other anamolies as well, though I can’t think of any specifically right now. Seometimes when i’m working on something really intricate, with maybe 50 layers and grouped objects etc, the entire program bogs down, and i have to save and restart my mac. i keep my history states at maximum also, 1000 steps, which I’ve noticed will slow things down a bit, but i make a lot of mistakes so I need to be able to go back to every step, lol. i’ve been working in PS since ’93! if i ever come across a cool fix or tip that’s new, I’ll give ‘em to you. sweet site!
